Full Time Tenure Track Faculty Position – Mathematics
School of Education — Department of Education: Mathematics

The University invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time (rank open) position in the Department of Education, to begin August 2013.

The successful candidate will have expertise in mathematics and the teaching of mathematics K – 12 with Common Core standards, understanding of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standards for elementary and secondary levels, an in-depth understanding of mathematics planning through backward design, expertise in assessing mathematical understanding in the inclusive classroom, a commitment to preparing teacher candidates for the urban school and active involvement with public schools, Pre-K – 12.

Responsibilities include using best practices in teaching mathematics for introductory undergraduate and graduate teacher licensure courses at elementary and secondary levels in the Department of Education, as well as a course in mathematics for the Special Education Department’s master-of-arts degree. The faculty member in this position is also responsible for organizing and supervising the elementary spring clinical experience and for developing collaborative relationships with Pre-K – 12 schools, as appropriate to the coursework. Additional instructional opportunities could include teaching educational research or educational technology and additional responsibilities could be related to program assessment.

University expectations include developing and maintaining an active research agenda, in line with the Boyer Model of faculty development and providing service to the Department, School and the University through participation on committee work. Service activities are expected to be consistent with teaching and scholarship and grant writing is expected to involve faculty and students in addressing local school district needs. The position includes shared responsibility for all phases of the advising, instruction and program development and evaluation process. There is opportunity to assume rotational responsibility as the Department Chair.

Qualifications include an earned doctorate in an appropriate field or ABD, with an expected date of completion by May 2013, in-depth experience in teaching and/or supervision in Pre-K – 12 school settings and experience in teacher preparation or school-based professional development. The School of Education is especially interested in recruiting a diverse candidate pool.
