Founded in 1852, Wartburg College is a selective four-year liberal arts college of the Lutheran Church (ELCA), internationally recognized for community engagement. We offer more than 50 academic majors and pre-professional and certificate programs leading to the bachelor’s degree. This full-time, tenure-track position starts in Fall Term 2013 and includes excellent benefits.

Duties Include: Provide leadership for the education program and accreditation processes; teach the equivalent of seven undergraduate courses (typically 3 in Fall Term, 3 in Winter Term and 1 in May Term), including courses in the professional core and other education offerings or general education courses, dependent upon departmental needs and candidate’s qualifications; and, advising, scholarship and service duties, as appropriate to the nature of the candidate;s appointment.

Requires a Doctorate in Education (or a related field), completed by August of 2013; at least three years of K – 8 or 5 – 12 successful teaching experience; commitment to student-centered learning, teacher preparation and excellence in teaching; and, willingness to support the mission (http://www.wartburg.edu/about/) of the College and its liberal arts tradition.

Prefer college level teaching experience; ability to teach in the education professional core and facilitate student work in diverse settings; experience as a department chair or in other educational leadership positions; knowledge of, and experience with, teacher education accreditation standards and processes; desire to teach in the College’s interdisciplinary general education program; experience with student teaching supervision; successful experience working with diverse populations; and, the ability to work professionally with a language and culture significantly represented among our student body, but not currently represented among our faculty/staff, e.g., Bosnian, Japanese, etc.

The Wartburg College Teacher Education Program is approved by the Iowa Department of Education and is accredited byNCATE; reaccreditation is scheduled for Spring 2015. With seven full-time Education Department faculty, the program graduates 60 – 80 student each year. Students are licensed to teach in both elementary and secondary schools.
